Writing
Accurate, clear and warm—that's my writing style. Whether writing copy for a museum exhibit or training materials for educators, I make complex topics awesome. I especially enjoy working with community partners to create bilingual and bi-cultural content. (My Spanish fluency often comes in handy!)
“¿Qué honda, hongo?”
We used these microbe fun facts in English and Spanish to pique guests’ curiosity and sense of play as they entered Zoo in You: The Human Microbiome.
Lake Washington Boulevard
In spring and summer of 2020, the Seattle Department of Transportation closed Lake Washington Boulevard to cars. This let community members safely use the space for active recreation—walking, biking, and rolling—while staying in their neighborhood and keeping social distance during the pandemic. As Seattle DOT prepared to re-open the street to cars, I created these social media posts for Seattle Neighborhood Greenways. The bold text headers are direct quotations that I selected from the early survey responses. This campaign helped us achieve over a thousand petition signers.
The Conservatory Cookbook
Inspired by the Exploratorium’s “exhibit cookbooks,” the Conservatory Cookbook is a guide to incorporating live plants into museum exhibits. I explained everything from the overarching learning goals to the literal nuts and bolts of the Plants Are Up to Something exhibition at the Huntington Library.
Common Ostrich Fact Sheet
I researched and wrote more than 70 animal fact sheets for Woodland Park Zoo. They double as online educational materials for guests and handy volunteer training materials. I worked with our graphic design team to develop a one-sheet format that leveraged exceptional photos to help bring the stories to life.
Call of the Wild
When Woodland Park Zoo launched its “Call of the Wild” video calls in Spring 2020, each of the ambassador animals needed a short, engaging bio. I researched characteristics of the species as a whole as well as getting to know the individual animals while writing these marketing blurbs.
“Birthing the Monster” and “Wings of Desire”
I wrote these articles for Bitch Magazine: A Feminist Response to Pop Culture. It was a fun chance to do a feminist analysis of science fiction tropes as well as digging into the symbolism of humorous pop-science videos.
